LIVESTREAM TEXAS HISTORY: Virtual field trips, group tours

Unable to get to Pioneer Farms in person? We’ll bring our colorful Texas history to you, no matter where you are — in Texas or far away!

You can experience Lone Star history during the 1800s from your home, classroom or activity center with our new livestreamed virtual tours of our historic sites that feature an interactive walkthrough with an experiences history guide. Ask the guide questions as you go along, just as would if you were touring in-person at Pioneer Farms.

Our virtual tours can be tailored to your needs:

  • Tours for school classes can be designed for individual grade levels and curriculums, and for community organizations, senior living centers and other groups with an interest in Texas and Austin history. All school tours meet state curriculum standards.

  • Lengths of the tours vary from an hour for elementary classrooms to up to two hours for older-aged groups. Students, teachers and members of touring groups can interact live with the guide as the tour is underway.

  • All virtual tours include free admission passes so members of your class or group can visit Pioneer Farms’ 96-acre living-history museum later with their family, or on their own, to see our sites up close and personal.

The following virtual tours are currently offered:

  • Gone to Texas (tour of the log cabins and environs at our 1878 Texian Farmstead and/or 1866 German Emigrant Farm to see how early settlers lived)

  • Tickwan-tic (tour of our 1844 Tonkawa Encampment along historic Walnut Creek that showcases the First Texas cultures)

  • Saddle Up! (tour of our 1871 Chisholm Trail site on a portion of the actual trail that passed through Pioneer Farms, including facetime with Longhorn cattle)

Coming soon:

  • Free At Last (tour of our 1892 Freedman Farm now under construction that highlights the successes of formerly enslaved African American Texans in this area after emancipation)

  • Cotton Is King (tour of our 1859 Bell House and environs to show how monied cotton planters plantation owners in 1886 lived)

  • Going To Town (tour of our Sprinkle Corner entrance village, the smithy, our historic carriage display and exhibits in the 1854 Aynesworth-Wright House and 1875 Houston-Orsay House)

  • Wild Texas (nature tour of our historical grounds and natural areas along Walnut Creek)

Tours work like this: You select a date and sign up via the box below. We tailor the tour to fit your needs. Then, you provide us with your Zoom or online meeting link, where we join on the day of the tour to give you a livestream tour of Texas history.

The tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have questions, send us an email at Info@PioneerFarms.org.

Keep in mind that our virtual tours are designed for classes and groups ranging from 12 to 35 students or participants. More than one class in different locations can view the virtual lesson simultaneously, but only one can participate in it interactively.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
