NEW TEJANO HISTORY SITE PLANNED
Plans are moving forward to develop a new Tejano history site to showcase a rich and important part of Texas' history — one that touches most elements of modern live in the Lone Star State, from food and language to music and religion.
The new site, to be located adjacent to the 1866 German Emigrant Farm will feature our one-story house — of wood-stucco or masonry-stone construction — with a corral and a log barn. The homesite will be located on a knoll overlooking Walnut Creek, a common location for early settlers’ homes in Central Texas.
The site will be interpreted for 1853, when Central Texas had a sizable Hispanic population that decreased during the mid-1800s. It will showcase Texas‘ history as New Spain and Mexico.
It will showcase the vaquero culture, with roots deep in ranching and horsemanship that became common practice in the region. Early ranching communities evolved into towns, and the vaqueros gave rise to Texas’ modern cowboy culture.
Fundraising has started to construct the important new history site. Make a contribution at this link to help us make this exciting new history site a reality.
