ABANA Certification
For students serious about blacksmithing, this course covers the nationally recognized Artists Blacksmithing Association Level 1 Curriculum. The basics of forging, heat treating, tool making and forge welding all covered in this 12-session series taught in our Village Smithy.
At the end the student will have or is ready to complete all the requirements for their Level 1 certification and have a start on a set of handmade blacksmithing tools. The course has 12 instructor led classes and access to Thursday evening Open Shop for 6 months.
Spring Class Dates in 2026: Instruction on Mondays from Feb. 23 through May 11 . Fall Class Dates in 2026: Instruction on Mondays from August 17 through November 2

Location & Duration: The Village Smithy, 3 hours each

Enrollment & Refunds
Enrollment must be completed at least one week before the class date.
No refunds are offered once the enrollment fee has been received.
If a student cannot attend, they may reschedule once on a space-available basis. To reschedule, students must contact us in writing before the class begins at info@pioneerfarms.org. No exceptions.
Prerequisites
No experience necessary
What to Wear
A cotton or other natural-fiber shirt (long sleeves optional)
Long pants or jeans
Work boots or closed-toe shoes
What to Bring
Safety glasses (required)
Hearing protection (optional)
Water (at least 1 gallon in the summer)
Age Requirements
Class is designed for ages 18 and older.
Ages 12–17 may enroll only if a parent or legal guardian also enrolls in and attends the class with them. No exceptions.
