Basic Blacksmithing: 12 Projects

Prerequisite: Basic Blacksmithing: Core Skills or previous blacksmithing experience.

Continue your blacksmithing journey and hone your skills with a different project class each month in this five-hour class. Materials provided.

  • January 13, 2024 — Rubiks & Dice Twists: A class two of the first advance twists that many blacksmiths attempt.  The rubiks and dice twists can be used to elevate your work from drab to fab.

  • February 14, 2024 — Kissing Horse Hearts: GIve your Valentine a heart made out of a horseshoe adorned with two horse heads.  A perfect gift for any Texan.

  • March 9, 2024 — Four-Leaf Clovers: These lucky steel clovers will never wilt, and are a perfect way to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

  • April 21, 2024 — Captured Heart Puzzle: This popular tavern puzzle is a great conversation piece to stump your friends or to give as a gift.

  • May 11, 2024 — Multi-Part Rose: These lovely steel roses are a great decoration or a perfect way to show someone you care.

  • June 16, 2024 — Dragon Scale & Alligator Twists: These twists bring a reptilian touch to anything you put them on.  They are great for handles or as a decorative element on fantasy-themed items.

  • July 13, 2024 — Magic Wands: Make a wand to celebrate a certain Wizard Boy's July birthday. Magic wands are a great way to demonstrate your creativity as a blacksmith.

  • August 18, 2024 — Bulldog Bottle Opener: Celebrate National Dog Day by making a bulldog-themed bottle opener that will have everyone talking.

  • September 14, 2024 — Fire Strikers: In this class you'll make a fire striker, char cloth, and learn how to start a fire using flint and steel.  The ultimate survival tool flint and steel ensure you'll never be caught without the ability to start a fire.

  • October 20, 2024 — Skulls: Celebrate Halloween and create spooky skulls to give any of your projects a touch of the grave.

  • November 17, 2024 — Viking Jewelry: Students will have the opportunity to forge several types of viking inspired Jewelry including pendants, bracelets and brooches.

  • December 14, 2024 — Jingle Bells:  Ring in the holidays by forging your very own jingle bell. Perfect to add onto your sleigh as you traverse a winter wonderland.

Taught in our Village Smithy on listed dates at the following times: January-April: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Except Feb. 14, 2024 class that will meet at 5:30 p.m.; May-September: 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. , and October-December: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

Students should wear a cotton or other natural-fiber shirt (long sleeves optional), long pants or jeans, and work boots or close-toed shoes. Bring a bottle of water and a sack lunch. A 30-minute lunch break will be given. Gourmet sandwiches, chips and drinks are available for purchase in the General Store.

Class is designed for students ages 18 and older. Students aged 15-17 years old may enroll so long as a parent or legal guardian signs the attendance release form at the beginning of the class. Youths ages 12-14 may enroll if a parent or legal guardian enrolls in and takes the class with the younger student. No exceptions.

Enrollment is required no less than a week before the class date. All enrollments are subject to availability.

Important notice: No refunds are allowed once the enrollment fee is received. Students who cannot attend a class for whatever reason may reschedule once, on a space-available basis.
