AUSTIN MUSEUM DAY: Sunday, September 21

Come celebrate Texas history at the one place in Central Texas where Lone Star history is real just as it was in the 1800s. And on this one day, you can see, touch, and feel that history. For free.

Hours on this one special no-admission day are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hear noted yodeling singer-songwriter Evelyn Billington, the Coyote Cowgirl, on stage in our historic Wessels dance hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. See our award-winning blacksmiths turn red-hot metal into keepsake knives and other items. See frontier re-enactors spinning and doing daily chores just like they did in 1800s Texas.

Tour a restored 1876 church where Elvis Presley once sang gospel.

Talk to Longhorn cows, chickens, donkeys and even wild turkeys.

Shop for unique collectables in our history-filled Old General Store.

You can see 19th-century activities and demonstrations at our restored history sites, and even help out with some if you like.

See our Freedman’s Farm which is currently under restoration for an idea of what it takes to save important Texas history one board at a time.

Visit new exhibits and displays including our 1890s Telegraph Station and Post Office.

Most of all, come out and enjoy Texas history!

For free.
