TRADITIONAL CRAFTS DAY: Saturday, April 25
Join us for an exceptional day of history showcasing traditional crafts in 1800s Texas and how artisans are still practicing them with modern-day expertise, with contests and competitions in blacksmithing, hand woodworking, coin stamping, leatherworking, old engines and antique clocks all on the agenda.
The festivities will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Regular museum admission will be charged. Members get in for free.
The special program is hosted by Pioneer Farms and the Texas Folk Arts School, which operates the largest heritage trades school in Texas.

Blacksmithing - Intro Smithing Contest - Make a Hook
Time: 30 minutes: 10:30 - 11 a.m.
Max Contestants: 10 - Signup on the day of the event.
Materials: A selection of materials will be supplied for competitors to choose from.
Judging: Judging will be done by Philip Waters & Aaron Tilton.
Judging Criteria:
Difficult of skills
Quality of work
Artistic impact
Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place. Prizes to be announced.
Blacksmithing - Chain Making
Time: 20 minutes: 10:15 - 11 a.m.
Max Contestants: 10 - Signup on signup sheet on the day of the event.
Materials: 8 inch lengths of 3/8 round bar will be supplied
Judging: Judging will be done by Philip Waters & 1 additional judge TBD
Judging Criteria:
Quantity of well formed links in a single chain.
Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place. Prizes to be announced.
Blacksmithing - Showcase Item - Forged Cooking Equipment
Items must be placed in the showcase by 10:00 AM and may be picked up after 1PM
Contestants should bring an item or set of items that they have made before the event that are primarily forged using traditional blacksmithing skills that are relevant to cooking.
Examples: Forks, Spatulas, Gridirons, Trammel Hooks, Campfire cooking sets, pans, etc.
Max Contestants: No Max.
