WILD WEST FATHER'S DAY: Saturday-Sunday, June 16-17
Step back in Texas history with your dad at Pioner Farms, on this time of the year when he is the top sheriff — Father's Day Weekend.
Special 1800s reenactments, new exhibits and activities at our five historic sites are sure to bring out the inner Buffalo Bill or Matt Dillon in your very own father, as you get a taste of what it was like to live in Texas when Austin was a village on edge of the Lone Star frontier, a time when traffic jams were two wagons meeting in the town square and the local filling station was a livery stable.
Walk a portion of the historic Chisholm Trail. See longhorn cattle in their native prairie environment. See a real stagecoach and horse-drawn carriages from Austin's colorful past. See real Tonkawa Indian artifacts and a real Indian village. Visit the bedroom of noted gunslinger and onetime Austin city marshal Ben Thompson, who was at one time considered the fastest draw in the West by none other than big-time shootist Batt Masterson.
Saddle up for an afternoon of fun on Father's Day Weekend at Pioneer Farms. Come early. Stay late. Regular admission will be charged.
Gates open at 10 p.m., and the fun will continue until the last longhorn meanders off the trail at 5 p.m.
