Weekend of Unmentionables
Nowadays, ladies buy their lingere at stores in the mall. But in 1800s Texas, those undergarments often called unmentionables had to be sewn by hand at home.
On Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4-5, a special hands-on workshop and demonstration will showcase how these frilly undergarments were once made — from split drawers to chemises to petticoats. Using instructions created by Sewing Academy queen Elizabeth Stewart Clark, a crew of costumed historical reenactors will make an array of undergarments like your great-grandmother once wore — from pattern to finished product.
The historical demonstration will be held in the historic James Bell House at our 1886 Cotton Planter's Farm.
This will be an historical demonstration that you'll want to be sure and see.
