Pioneer Farms

Pioneer Farms is pleased to invite you and your students back for another exciting year "down on the farm". Pioneer Farms is an outdoor living history museum which presents the story of rural life in central Texas in the mid to late 1800s. You will find here a unique blending of livestock, crops, and restored 19th century buildings.

The Farms offers a setting that captures the feeling of by-gone days. When used as a living laboratory, the Farms teaches students of all ages to relate general concepts of history, to the vitality that is our community's heritage.

Your group can spend as much time as they wish exploring our 90-acre living history Farms.

Around the Farms, costumed interpreters recreate the work and every day life of the 1860s - 1890s by demonstrating various traditional activities such as hoeing in the garden, sewing on a handmade quilt, or cooking over an open fire.

INFORMATION YOU NEED.....

WEATHER - Pioneer Farms is open rain or shine. Please dress according to the weather. Sunscreen and insect repellant are suggested, as are closed-toe shoes. In the event of severe weather, Pioneer Farms may cancel tours.

LUNCH - If your group is planning to have lunch at Pioneer Farms, each person should bring a sack lunch. Each person should bring bottled water. It is important to stay well-hydrated while touring the Farms. While you will see volunteers cooking during your visit, please be aware that Pioneer Farms cannot serve that food to the public. Snacks and beverages are available for purchase in the General Store.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO PIONEER FARMS

Driving South on I-35

Take the Braker Lane Exit. Turn left at the stop light. Go straight until you reach Dessau Road. Turn left onto Dessau road and get into the immediate right-hand lane. Turn right onto Braker Lane (Pioneer Crossing Neighborhood). Go straight until the road dead-ends. Turn right onto Pioneer Farms Drive. GO STRAIGHT, do not turn left. Pioneer Farms Drive dead-ends at the Pioneer Farms parking lot.

Driving North on I-35

Take the Braker Lane Exit. Turn right at the stop light. Go straight until you reach Dessau Road. Turn left onto Dessau road and get into the immediate right-hand lane. Turn right onto Braker Lane (Pioneer Crossing Neighborhood). Go straight until the road dead-ends. Turn right onto Pioneer Farms Drive. GO STRAIGHT, do not turn left. PIONEER FARMS' RULES (IN KID-SPEAK, but apply to everyone) - Please review with your group prior to arriving.

• I will stay with my teacher and/or chaperones at all times.
• I will not engage in horseplay or play roughly.
• I will not climb on fences, open gates or scare the animals.
• I will not go into the loft at the Homestead Cabin.
• I will not play on the pump organ, sewing machine, water pump, or other artifacts or displays.
• I will not play on top of or underneath any houses or other buildings.
• I will be respectful of everyone I come in contact with.
• I will not cause anyone harm or make someone feel bad by calling names or treating them badly.
• I will clean up after myself, and will not litter.
• I will not go into the store without my teacher or chaperone or parent.
• I will stay on the pathways and not wander into the woods or down by the creek or pond.
• I will listen to and obey my teacher, chaperones, and ALL Pioneer Farms Volunteers.
• I will not take home artifacts or other items from Pioneer Farms.
• I understand that if I do not follow the rules, I will be asked to leave Pioneer Farms
• ABOVE ALL ELSE, HAVE A GREAT DAY! WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU DOWN ON THE FARM!
