Pioneer Farms

Pioneer Farms has more to offer than ever before this coming year - new programs, new exhibits, new historic sites, new learning opportunities for all ages.

We have expanded our popular Life on the Prairie program, available on Fridays during most of the year, with a new and expanded interpretive curriculum about Texas history. At a time when prices are rising every place else, you will be happy to know we have held the line on our program rates - just the thing for your tight budget.

We have broadened the interpretive period of our historic areas to include not just the 1880s, but also the 1860s, 1870s, and 1890s. By sometime next Spring, we expect to have a new Tonkawa Indian interpretive site - circa 1830s - open and available for use by school groups. These improvements will allow your students to see and experience a much broader range of authentic Texas history.

Two new see-and-touch exhibits open in September at our Sprinkle Corner entrance village, which has grown in recent months with the addition of two more historic building. Thanks to the efforts of an Eagle Scout project, an expanse of native Blacklands Prairie is being restored there - an interesting display of native grasses that once greeted settlers and homesteaders in this region.

Of special note, we will again be offering Barnyard Babies and Junior Farmer children's programs beginning in Spring 2007, with new group rates that you can't afford to pass up.

These new offerings and improvements, among many others, should make your field-rip experience more rewarding and pleasurable. They are the result of many hours of hard work during the summer by our volunteer corps and our expanding sponsor support.

Come see us. Experience real Texas history like no place else.
